To say that I love what I do is an understatement. So what do I do? I build applications for the Flash Platform. Mainly this means building Flex applications but my focus is a little broader. I design and build solutions using the technologies of the Flash Player and the Flash Platform.
This love affair started in 1999 when I put my degree in Fine Arts to work and started working as a graphic designer. This is when I first encountered Flash and I was smitten immediately. I worked tirelessly to improve my skills. I became obsessed with learning Flash and Actionscript. I still remember working one Sunday night at about 1 am when I received an email from Macromedia informing me that Flash MX 2007 was now available. I stopped everything, downloaded it and then spent the next 3 days reading the entire documentation. This is the effort I have put into becoming an expert Actionscript developer.
Today I work as a consultant leveraging my design and development skills to help clients design and build solutions that fit their needs. Most of the time this is done as part as a larger team but I have also worked on smaller, solo projects where I do all aspects of the project. This includes not only the design and development of the application but also database design and server side coding as well as client relations and project management.
I believe in life-long learning. I think it is a necessity. You either grow and move forward or stagnate. I have many small projects on the go at any time that I use to learn new technologies and new approaches. I am also a constant reader. There is so much information out there and new technologies come into being every day. I absorb information and if I don`t need it immediately I store it away for future reference.
So far it has been an exciting ride and there is still more to come as I constantly hone my skills to build better and better solutions for present and future clients.
